About Learn ISL

A free, browser-first platform for studying Indian Sign Language.

What is Learn ISL?

Learn ISL is an online learning environment for Indian Sign Language (ISL). It bundles a study mode, a camera-based practice mode, and a daily sign challenge into one place. Sign in once with a Google account and your progress syncs across web and mobile.

Who is it for?

  • Deaf learners and their families.
  • Teachers, healthcare workers, and social workers who interact with deaf members of the community.
  • NGO trainers and volunteer educators who need a free, accessible resource.
  • Anyone curious about ISL.

Who built it?

Learn ISL is built by Longtail AI Foundation, a non-profit working on AI tools for under-served communities in India. Read more about the foundation or the Talk in ISL project.

Where do the signs come from?

Sign demonstrations come from publicly available ISL dictionary content and from videos recorded by us. We curate and re-annotate the dictionary footage for use in interactive learning. We are not the canonical source for any given sign. If you spot a mistake, write to us and we will fix it.
